DOUGLAS – The Torrington High School golf team opened the 2023 spring season with a trip to Douglas.
The one-day tournament was originally scheduled for Friday, but because of the weather forecast, Douglas moved it up 24 hours.
The Blazers and Lady Blazers faced the tall task of squaring off against most Class 4A competition, but the teams still had a pair of golfers finish in the top 10.
Madyson Banister shot a personal best round of 92 to finish tied for ninth, while Braeden Reid shot an 80 to place in a tie for 10th. Gage Gibson shot an 85 to finish just outside the top 10.
For the Lady Blazers, Madison Gibson shot a 115, while Kaylee Pitman fired a 119. Kayleigh Waymire and Sarah Birdsall shot a 129 and 132, respectively.
As a team, the Lady Blazers finished sixth with 326. Torrington was the highest finishing 3A team at the tournament. Sheridan won the team title with 259 over Kelly Walsh with 260. Thunder Basin was third with 277.
In the boys’ division, Caleb Kelly shot a 91, while Alex Waring and Mason Wilkes both shot 102.
As a team, the Torrington boys finished eighth with 358. Kelly Walsh won the boys’ team title with 308. Cheyenne East was second with 316, and Campbell County was third with 324.
Torrington is scheduled to travel to Buffalo on Friday, April 21. Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
