Torrington falls to Central

CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School girls’ softball team traveled to play Cheyenne Central in a makeup double-header on Friday, May 9. 

Torrington ultimately came up short in both games – 10-3 and 8-2, respectively.

In the first game, Cheyenne Central clinched the win with four runs in the top of the first inning, two in the second and three in the sixth while holding the Lady Blazers to one run apiece in the top of the first and fourth innings.

The Lady Blazers collected nine hits against Cheyenne Central in the first game, with freshman Olivia Meyer, junior Skyla Wunder, sophomore Aftyn Hager and senior Hope Hager each tallying two hits. Sophomore Rein Coulson rounded out the stat sheet with one hit.

On the mound, freshman Jadah Jacobson pitched for Torrington for six innings, striking out two.

In the second game, Cheyenne Central picked up eight runs in the first four innings while shutting out the Lady Blazers’ offense until the top of the sixth inning.

Torrington recorded five hits in the second game, led by Meyer and Coulson with two and Skyla Wunder one.

Sophomore Kadence Schamel opened as pitcher for the Lady Blazers, striking out two over four innings. Freshman Emily Audette came in as relief, striking out one.

The Lady Blazers travel to the 4A South regional tournament in Laramie on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17.
