DOUGLAS – Both Torrington Little All-Star teams were in action over the weekend in Douglas.

The Torrington 11-12-year-old All-Star team opened the weekend out with a pair of losses to Laramie teams before bouncing back to win the championship on Sunday.

On Friday, Torrington fell to the Laramie Regulators 6-1. Torrington tallied four hits in the loss – two by Asher Mattis and one each by Patrick Mortimore and Marek Nunnes. Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Torrington gave up four runs as Laramie was able to pull away for the victory.

On Saturday morning, Laramie White handed Torrington a 9-1 loss. For the second straight game, the All-Stars had four hits – two my Mortimore and one each by Barrett Bruch and Ebin Hunter.

Later on Saturday, Torrington picked up the first win of the weekend 10-3 over the Douglas Cats.

The All-Stars scored one run in each of the first three innings but capped off the game with seven in the fourth. Owen Curry got the offense going with a single in the fourth. Kane Correa, Hunter, Colby Groene, Bryce Booth and Nunnes picked up hits in the inning.

On Sunday morning, Torrington defeated Douglas again 13-3 to advance to the championship game later on in the day.

Mortimore led off the game with a single, sparking a three-run opening frame. It was a led which Torrington never surrendered.

Laramie got two back in the bottom of the first, but those were the only runs scored until the top of the sixth.

In the sixth, Mortimore led the inning off with a single, and Mattis doubled through the second baseman’s legs. Both of them came around to score later in the inning to secure the victory.

Meanwhile, the 8-10-year-old team went 3-1, while the 11-12-year-old team went 3-2.

On Saturday, the younger team picked up 15-0 win over the Valor Vikings and a 12-2 win over the Laramie Minors.

Against Valor, seven Torrington players tallied one hit each, while the team walked 11 times in a game which last three innings.

The pitching duo of Caden Ryall and Gunner Werning struck out six and only one allowed one hit.

Against Laramie, Torrington raced out to a 7-0 lead en route to the run-ruled victory.

Jax Bruch, Hudson Hoffman and Cassius Gonzalez had two hits apiece.

On Sunday, Torrington jumped out to a 10-0 lead en route to a 15-1 victory over the Buffalo Bulls.

Werning and Reed Curry combined to strike out six and give up only two hits.

Offensively, Preston Stratton went 2-for-3 for Torrington with three RBIs and two runs scored.

In the championship game, the Douglas All-Stars got the best Torrington despite a late rally.

Douglas led 9-2 heading to the bottom of the third, when Torrington mounted a comeback. They scored three in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth to come one run shy.

Stratton, Hoffman and Werning tallied two hits apiece.

Both teams now turn their attention to the District No. 2 Tournament in Douglas.

The 11-12-year-old team opens against Platte County at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 17 and the 9-10-year-old team begins at Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of Laramie and Platte County on July 18.
