Tigers trounce WESTCO at home opener

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers ‘A’ Legion team highlighted its first home game of the 2024 season with a 12-8 victory against the WESTCO Zephyrs on Tuesday, May 21.

The win followed a split double-header against Chadron on Saturday. The first game between the Tigers and Chadron came down to the wire, with Chadron pulling out the win, 9-7.

Rallying in the second game, Torrington cruised past Chadron to score an 11-4 victory.

The first two innings between the Tigers and Zephyrs resulted in a 1-1 stalemate. 

Ryan Moorehouse put Torrington on the scoreboard with a single in the bottom of the first inning before WESTCO tied the game with a fielder’s choice in the top of the second inning.

Torrington pulled ahead, 4-1, at the bottom of the second inning. Drew Kramer singled, Ayden Desmond hit a fielder’s choice and Caleb Kelly stole home.

The game reached another stalemate when WESTCO drove in three runs in the top of the third inning.

Torrington responded in the bottom of the fourth when Desmond singled and Moorehouse walked, scoring two runs.

The Tigers dominated the seventh inning, establishing a sizeable lead with six runs on five hits. Kramer batted a single for two runs, Mac Hibben doubled for three runs and Landre Greiman singled for a run.

Torrington tallied 14 hits over the course of nine innings, led by Kramer with four hits.

The Tigers demonstrated a good eye for walks while batting. Moorehouse and Xavier Sanchez both led the Tigers with two walks apiece.

Torrington stole seven bases during the game with Kramer and Desmond setting the pace.

Greiman pitched for most of the game, striking out three. Hibben stepped in as relief pitcher and collected the save.

Up next, the Tigers travel to play Buffalo on June 1 followed by an away game against Sheridan on June 2.
