WHEATLAND – The Torrington Tiger senior Legion baseball team moved to 16-6 on the summer with a conference sweep of the Wheatland Lobos on Monday evening.

In game one, the Tigers pulled away late to score a 9-5 victory.

Landre Greiman’s two-out double, drove in Ben Firminhac and Ayden Desmond to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

A bases loaded walk issued to Ryder Hackbarth with two out in the top of the third extended the Torrington lead to 3-0.

It remained 3-0 until the home half of the fourth when Wheatland plated three runs of its own to tie the game.

However, the tie was short-lived as the Tigers exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth.

Desmond set the tone for the inning with a first-pitch home run to left field. It was his first home run of his career. Firminhac followed it up with a single, and Hibben walked. An error loaded the bases, and Long’s two-RBI single made the score 6-3. Ryan Moorehouse singled, driving in another run, and Grady Shields doubled, pushing the Tiger lead to 9-3.

Wheatland got two more runs back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Tigers allowed only four additional base runners for the remainder of the game.

Firminhac and Greiman went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers. Long picked up the win, pitching four innings, striking out four and giving up no earned runs.

Game two started the same way game one started – a Greiman double, giving Torrington a 2-0 lead.

In the third, a dropped third strike scored the Tigers’ third run of the game.

Wheatland got its only runs in the third and fourth innings, but Torrington capped off the game with two runs in the seventh.

Short reached on an error, and Desmond doubled. Firminhac singled, driving in Short and Desmond.

Firminhac was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Desmond added two hits.

Desmond picked up the win, pitching 3 1/3 innings, striking out five.

The Tigers head to Rushville, Nebraska to face Sheridan County Generals on Friday, June 23. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.

ëCí falls twice on road

It was a mixed bag of results for the younger Tiger teams on Tuesday evening.

The ‘B’ team returned to Wheatland, picking up a 9-8 and 22-11 sweep of the Lobos.

In game one, the Tigers scored four unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the victory.

Down 8-5, Moorehouse hit into a sacrifice fly, scoring Wyler Fisher, and in the top of the seventh, the Tigers completed the comeback.

With two outs and Ethan Robbins on first base, Spencer Booth and Fisher recorded back-to-back singles to load the bases. Drew Kramer singled to right field to tie the game at eight, and Moorehouse quickly broke the tie with another single.

Torrington held on for the win in the bottom of the inning despite allowing two base runners.

Kramer went 4-for-5 at the plate, including three RBIs and two runs scored, while Fisher, Anthony Moser and Mateo Correa had two hits apiece.

Moser picked up the win, striking out three over four innings.

In game two, Torrington jumped on Wheatland with four runs in the top of the first. The Tigers added two more in the third, but the Lobos stormed back with nine runs in the bottom of the third.

In the fourth, Torrington plated 12 runs to regain the lead and never fell behind again, adding four more in the fifth to close out the run-ruled contest.

Rhett Clark went 4-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs, while Moorehouse went 3-of-4 with six RBIs and three runs scored. Moser went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored.

Clark also picked up the win, striking out three over 2 1/3 innings.

The Tigers (6-4) head to Fort Morgan, Colorado this weekend for a weekend tournament. They open against Chappell, Nebraska at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, June 23.

Also on Tuesday, the ‘C’ Tigers suffered a pair of close losses to Saratoga, falling 12-10 in game one and 9-8 in the game two.

In game one, Torrington’s rally came up short. Saratoga grabbed a 4-0 leading to the third when the Tigers got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs. The home team responded with six more runs in the home half of the third to push the lead to 10-2. Saratoga added two more runs in the fourth before Torrington countered with eight in the fifth, coming two runs shy of tying the game.

James Stienmetz and Harrison Rodriguez paced the offense with two hits apiece. The duo combined for three runs scored and three RBIs.

In game two, Torrington jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but Saratoga stormed back in the fifth and sixth innings.

The home team scored three runs in the fifth and walked it off in the sixth with only one out.

Will Rodgers led Torrington at the plate, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Tiger ‘C’ team is now 5-8 on the season and heads to Laramie for a weekend tournament. They open against Wheatland at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23.
