GREEN RIVER – The Torrington senior American Legion baseball team began and ended the Green River Wood Bat Tournament with wins.

On Friday, the Tigers opened the weekend with a 21-1 thrashing of the tournament host Green River Knights.

Torrington didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard with eight runs in the first of the inning.

Ayden Desmond and Ben Firminhac opened the game with singles, and it was Landre Greiman’s single, driving in the game’s first run.

The Tigers added three runs in the second, one in the third and nine in the fourth. Green River’s only run of the game came in the bottom of the first.

Firminhac went 4-for-5 at the plate, while Desmond and Greiman had three hits apiece.

Desmond was credited with the victory, striking out four in two innings of work. Short also pitched two innings, striking out two.

In game two on Saturday, the Tigers fell to the Lovell Mustangs 17-8.

Lovell scored the first 11 runs of the game before Torrington plated its first run in the bottom of the third.

Greiman drove in the run, driving in Firminhac with two outs.

Torrington got four across in the fourth and three in the third, but the Mustangs added three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away for the run-ruled win.

Firminhac and Greiman tallied two hits apiece. Firminhac drove in four runs. He also took the loss, striking out two in two innings of work.

On Sunday morning, the Tigers fell to the Powell Pioneers 10-0 in six innings.

Powell scored twice in the first, three in the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Torrington mustered three hits in the loss. Desmond, Firminhac and Greiman tallied one hit apiece.

Long took the loss, striking out six over 5 2/3 innings.

On Sunday afternoon, the Tigers defeated Evanston 13-4.

Torrington jumped on the the Outlaws 6-0 through two innings to cruise to the victory.

Greiman drove in the game’s first run with no out in the top of the first, and in the second, Ryder Hackbarth and Desmond were hit by a pitches, and Ryan Moorehouse and Drew Kramer walked to push the Tiger lead to 2-0. A pair of Evanston errors added four more Tiger runs, extended the Torrington lead to 6-0.

The Tigers added two in the fourth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Firminhac and Greiman went 3-for-5 at the plate. The duo combined for seven RBIs and six runs scored. Desmond added two more, while Grady Shields had the other run.

Greiman was credited with the win, striking out one over 4 2/3 innings.

The Tigers are now 21-10 on the season. They host Sheridan County (Nebraska) for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The Tigers also head to the weekend Douglas tournament beginning on Friday, July 7. They will concluded the suspended game against Buffalo at 3:30 p.m. before playing Wheatland in the first game of the tournament at 5 p.m.
