DOUGLAS – After a two-hour, 10-minute weather delay, game two of the ‘A’ East District Tournament finally got underway.

After the mud had dried, the Torrington Tigers fell to the Wheatland Lobos, 5-2.

Wheatland jumped on Torrington early with two runs in the top of the first inning. The Lobos added one more in the second and one in the fourth.

During that span, the Tigers only had three base runners of their own. Two were courtesy of Wheatland errors, while Ryder Hackbarth walked.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the fourth when Mac Hibben broke up the Lobo no-hitter. Hibben advanced to third on a wild pitch, and Grady Shields walked. A balk brought in Hibben to score the Tigers’ first run of the game. Nolan Long followed it up with an RBI single, cutting the Wheatland lead to 4-2.

Torrington left the bases loaded in the fourth inning.

The Lobos got one more run across in the fifth, while the Tigers couldn’t do anything with back-to-back singles by Hibben and Shields.

Leaving runners on base was becoming a common theme late in the game for Torrington.

They left two more in scoring position in the sixth and one on in the seventh.

Hibben went 2-for-4 at the plate as Torrington collected only five hits in the loss. Ayden Desmond, Shields and Long had the other three.

Landre Greiman was tagged with the loss, striking out five in 5 2/3 innings.

The Tigers (27-14) will wrap up play at the East District Tournament on Friday.
