TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers Legion ‘C’ team hosted the Scottsbluff WESTCO squad for a double-header at Jirdon Park on Sunday, June 9.
The first game came down to the wire, with Torrington and WESTCO battling to a 3-3 stalemate at the bottom of the third inning following a single by Colby Groene that resulted in two RBI for the Tigers.
WESTCO managed to score a decisive run in the top of the fourth inning to post the win, 4-3.
Kane Correa pitched for Torrington throughout the first game, striking out four.
In the second game, WESTCO established a 5-0 lead by the top of the second inning and scored six additional runs in the top of the third inning. The Tigers fought to close the gap with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. WESTCO managed to remain ahead to prevail, 13-6, after four innings.
Overall, the Tigers tallied four hits in the second game, including two by Barrett Bruch. Brody Shields and James Stienmetz both singled for two RBI apiece.
On the mound, Stienmetz started for Torrington, while Groene, Mattis and Shields each stepped in as relief.
