Tiger ‘C’ team goes 1-3 against Wheatland

TORRINGTON – The youngest Torrington Tiger squad faced Wheatland in a four-game series over the weekend with two games being played in Torrington and two in Wheatland.

On Thursday, the Tiger ‘C’ team fell twice to the Lobos, 22-8 and 6-5.

In game one, Torrington waste any time getting runs on the scoreboard. Will Rodgers doubled, James Stienmetz walked, and Garrett Hager singled to put the home team in front early. Harrison Rodriguez doubled, driving in two more runs.

The Tiger lead was short-lived as Wheatland tied the game in the top of the second with three runs. The Lobos added four more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 11-3 lead.

Meanwhile, Torrington chipped away at the deficit in the fifth.

Paxtyn Rude, Hernandez and Rodgers loaded the bases courtesy of walks. Stienmetz also walked, brining around a run. Hager also brought in a run on a ground out. Stienmetz later scored on a Wheatland error and Thor Binns singled, bringing the Tigers within three at 11-8.

That was as close as the Tigers came as Wheatland poured on 11 runs in the sixth to close out the game.

Hager went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.

In game two, Torrington was unable to hold on to a 5-0. The Tigers got one across in the first and four in the second, but Wheatland countered with five in the third and one in the fourth.

In the fifth and final inning, the Tigers stranded Rodriguez, the tying run, at third.

Rodgers collected two of the team’s five hits in the loss.

On Saturday, the series moved to Wheatland, and the Tigers picked up a 20-10 victory in game one.

Stienmetz drove in the first of the 20 Tiger runs in the top of the first, but in the second inning, Torrington plated six runs, pushing the lead to 7-0.

Wheatland got its first run in the third, but Torrington continued to add to its lead with two in the fourth and 11 in the fifth. Meanwhile, Wheatland had three in the fourth and sixth in the fifth.

Clark went 5-for-5 on the day , while Rodriguez went 3-for-3. T Reimers and Stienmetz tallied two hits apiece.

In the second game of the day, Torrington fell 9-4.

In the loss, the Tigers tallied only six hits. Colby Sandusky went 2-for-3 to pace the offense.

Rodriguez doubled, driving in Torrington’s first run, but Wheatland tied the game in the bottom of the first. 

In the second inning, a Wheatland error gave Torrington a 2-1 lead, and Clark doubled, driving in Torrington’s third run of the game.

Wheatland countered with four in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth.

Torrington got one more run across in the fifth courtesy of a passed ball.

The Tigers are now 7-17 on the season and wrapped up the season on Monday night in Cheyenne.
