CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School boys and girls track teams proved their ability to run with the big dogs, posting strong finishes at the 2025 Okie Blanchard Invite hosted by Cheyenne East on Friday, April 11.

The Lady Blazers battled to the No. 5 spot on the team leaderboard with 67 points. The schools in the top four positions all represented larger 4A programs – Natrona County, Kelly Walsh, Cheyenne Central and Laramie. A smaller Torrington boys team took eighth place with 12 points.

Junior Brooklyn Asmus struck gold in two girls’ sprinting events. Clocking the finals for the 100-meters in at 12.06 seconds, Asmus crossed the finish line in first place with 0.18 seconds to spare over Natrona County’s Sage Gustafson.

The girls’ 1600-meter sprint medley relay team pulled ahead of Laramie by 4.08 seconds to garner gold. Junior Natalie Hawes, junior Trishell Pontarolo, Asmus and freshman Illyana Ponce crossed the finish line with a time of 4 minutes, 23.04 seconds.

“Once again, we had terrific weather at Cheyenne,” coach Russell Stienmetz said. “You never know how many meets you’ll get in outdoor track that are this nice. We had several more athletes prequalify for state in May in Casper. We’re just excited for them and ready to carry on for the season.”
