TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School junior varsity girls’ softball team defeated Wheatland, 12-10, in a close home game on Tuesday, April 15.

The game was originally scheduled to be a double-header. Thick gray clouds massed above Torrington as the first game came to an end and lightening and rain resulted in the cancelation of the second game.

Wheatland controlled the first inning against Torrington to pull ahead, 10-0.

Refusing to throw in the towel, the Lady Blazers rallied with 12 runs on five hits at the bottom of the second inning.

Sophomore Skyla Wunder set the pace for Torrington with a double, driving in three runners. Freshman Aftyn Hager scored two runs in the second inning.

Jayden Chilson, also a freshman, started as pitcher against Wheatland and played for a portion of the first inning, striking out one.

Sophomore Kennedy Reinhardt served as Torrington’s pitcher for the remainder of the game, striking out six Bulldogs.

Torrington’s victory over Wheatland followed an away game against Laramie on Friday, April 12.

Laramie batted in eight runs in the second inning, setting the momentum for the Lady Plainsmen to win at the end of five innings, 15-4.

Reinhardt stepped up to the pitcher’s mound for four innings, striking out six.

Reinhardt, sophomore Sinai Hernandez and junior Emilee Moats each had one hit while freshman Macauley McIntosh had two walks.

“Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate (against Laramie), accumulating six walks for the game,” head coach Robin Schainost said.
