CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers softball team commenced the 2025 varsity season with a 2-2 record at the Cheyenne Softball Invitational from March 21-22.
The Lady Blazers squared off against Kelly Walsh in the first game and came up short, 15-8.
Torrington rallied in the second matchup on Friday to defeat Cody in a game that came down to the wire, 6-5.
The Lady Blazers cruised past Jackson on Saturday morning by a 10-4 margin. Torrington fell to Natrona County in the final game, 14-2.
Kelly Walsh
Torrington took an early lead against Kelly Walsh in the top of the first inning when a double by Kadence Schamel drove in two runs.
Kelly Walsh replied with six runs in the bottom of the first and seven in the second inning to pull ahead, 13-2.
Torrington outscored Kelly Walsh, 6-2, in the third inning. Skyla Wunder and Rein Coulson both hit doubles while Macauley McIntosh singled in the top of the third.
Torrington collected five hits against Kelly Walsh with one apiece by Lyla Wernsman, Skyla Wunder, McIntosh, Coulson and Schamel.
Jadah Jacobson pitched three innings for the Lady Blazers and struck out three.
Cody
The first inning between Torrington and Cody ended with the Lady Fillies up, 3-2.
Torrington’s fielders shut out Cody in the top of the second inning. McIntosh walked for one run in the bottom of the second and the game reached a 3-3 stalemate.
The deadlock continued into the third inning with both teams netting three runs. Sinai Hernandez and Shaylyn Wunder both singled for the Lady Blazers while Emilee Moats hit a sacrifice bunt.
An error by Cody in the top of the fourth inning clinched the win for Torrington.
The Lady Blazers totaled nine hits against Cody, consisting of two apiece from Schamel, Skyla Wunder and Shaylyn Wunder. Wernsman, Coulson and Hernandez each posted one hit.
On the pitcher’s mound, Jacobson played two innings and struck out two. Schamel came in as relief for two innings, also striking out two.
Jackson
The Lady Blazers shut out Jackson in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, 2-0, when Coulson singled for two runs in the bottom of the first.
Torrington outmaneuvered Jackson in both the second and third innings by 4-0 margins. Wernsman grounded out for two runs. Aftyn Hager and Shaylyn Wunder both singled while Schamel doubled. Coulson was struck by a pitch.
Torrington tallied 10 hits against Jackson with two each by Schamel, McIntosh, Hager and Shaylyn Wunder. Wernsman and Coulson both totaled one hit.
Jacobson pitched four innings for Torrington, striking out four.
Natrona County
Torrington led, 2-0, in the first inning when Coulson doubled for two runs in the bottom.
Natrona County clinched its win with an 11-0 run in the second inning.
Schamel and Coulson both collected one hit against Natrona County. Jacobson and Schamel each pitched for Torrington with Jacobson striking out two and Schamel one.
