THS softball falls to Laramie

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers softball team returned to Jirdon Park for a home double-header against Laramie on Thursday, March 27.

Laramie proved a tough nut to crack with the Lady Blazers coming up short in both games.

The score remained close early in the opening game on Thursday with the first inning ending in a 0-0 stalemate. The Lady Blazers fielders promptly collected three outs in the top of the first inning. Laramie lined out to first baseman and sophomore Aftyn Hager. Junior pitcher Kennedy Reinhardt struck out a runner before Laramie hit the ball to sophomore Kadence Schamel at third base.

Laramie tallied two runs in the top of the second inning. Torrington responded with one run in the bottom of the second when sophomore Rein Coulson reached home on a wild pitch.

The Lady Plainsmen pulled up with three runs in the third inning and sealed their 20-2 win with 10 runs in the top of the fourth and five more in the fifth.

Torrington junior Skyla Wunder hit a homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Lady Blazers tallied four hits against Laramie in the first game, led by senior Hope Hager with two. 

Reinhardt pitched three innings for Torrington and struck out two. Freshman Jada Jacobson came in as relief and struck out one.

Laramie won the second game, 19-0, with the Lady Plainsmen laying the foundation in the first inning with a 9-0 lead.

Jacobson started as pitcher for Torrington in the second game with freshman Ashlyn Schamel playing relief.

The Lady Blazers host Cheyenne South for a double-header on Friday, April 4 at Jirdon Park. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
