CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School girls softball team traveled to play conference rival Cheyenne East for a single game on Tuesday, April 15.
Cheyenne East entered the matchup as the No. 1 ranked team in the South Conference with the Lady Thunderbirds sporting an 11-0 undefeated record for the 2024-2025 season.
Despite solid plays by the Lady Blazers, Cheyenne East won, 12-2.
The Lady Thunderbirds outscored the Lady Blazers in the first inning, 5-0.
Torrington’s fielders closed ranks in the second inning to hold Cheyenne East to a single run in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Olivia Meyer fielded a pop fly in right field.
Freshman Jadah Jacobson pitched for Torrington and struck out one. Cheyenne East grounded out to sophomore Rein Coulson at shortstop and Coulson tossed the ball to junior Kennedy Reinhardt on first base for the third out.
The Lady Blazers scored their first run in the top of the third inning when junior Skyla Wunder hit a grounder and reached second base on an error, driving sophomore Kadence Schamel home.
Torrington scored its second run in the top of the fifth inning. Wunder singled and made it to second base on an error, driving Meyer home again.
The Lady Blazers collected five hits against Cheyenne East, led by Schamel with two. Meyer, Wunder and Reinhardt each scored one run.
Jacobson pitched for Torrington through four innings, striking out one.
The home game between Torrington and Wheatland, originally scheduled for Thursday, April 17, was postponed to Tuesday, April 22, due to weather. Results from the makeup game were not available at press time.
