TORRINGTON – Torrington High School senior Lola Ringrose’s artistic experiences and interests span a wide spectrum of genre and styles. 

As an artist, Ringrose refuses to limit herself to a single medium. Her talents range from 3-D sculpture, acrylic painting, graphic design, theatre makeup design and just about everything in between.

When asked to name a specific artist for inspiration, Ringrose responded that the art world is too diverse to single out one particular individual or artistic category.

“There are too many artists out there,” she said. “I’m really inspired by any style of art that I see by any artist.”

Ringrose knows that art, in any form, is a field she want to pursue beyond high school.

 Art is something that I’m really passionate about,” she said. “I would be much happier in a career in fine arts.”

Ringrose took the first significant step in following her passion by signing to study in the art and design department at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley, a school with strong undergraduate and graduate programs in music, theatre, fine arts and art education. 

Ringrose visited the campus and met artists and faculty members at UNC and is excited to take her art career to the next level.

“I’m looking forward to experiencing college, meeting new people, seeing more diverse types of art and getting to meet new artists and seeing their different perspectives of art,” Ringrose said.

Ringrose made the wise choice to keep her options open at college rather than settle on a specific career path at this point.

“I know I want to do something in art, but I’m not really sure what yet,” Ringrose said. “I just have to see where the university takes me with my art career.”

UNC’s art and design department is varied, including “just about everything in the arts,” Ringrose added, from graphic design to drawing, painting and screen printing. 

Ringrose traced her interest in art back to elementary school. In middle school, she began “taking art more seriously” and by high school, Ringrose realized art was “what I wanted to do as a career.”

Ringrose’s talents in a range of mediums garnered her recognition as a high school artist in Wyoming. The senior snagged first place in sculpture at the 2023 Wyoming High School State Art Symposium. Ringrose also earned two first-place awards for theatre makeup design at the 2023 Wyoming State Thespian Festival.

While Ringrose’s artistic inspirations are wide-ranging, she is particularly drawn to paintings by the European masters of the Renaissance. Because works by Michelangelo, Botticelli and Dürer are not typically found in rural Wyoming, Ringrose hopes to pursue opportunities to visit the world’s museums while studying at UNC.

“I am really interested in traveling to different places to see different types of art, like New York and Europe,” Ringrose said. 

Ringrose is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society and is involved in the Torrington High School Art Club and drama program. Through her involvement in THS theatre, Ringrose has acted on stage and worked backstage in a variety of roles.

“I really like doing (theatre) tech, because I get to experiment with different kinds of media and art, from makeup to sewing,” Ringrose said.

Ringrose thanked her parents, family, friends and art teachers at both Torrington High School and Middle School for their support and encouragement over the years.
