THS picks up win in Rawlins

RAWLINS – The Torrington High School volleyball team picked up one win and split a pool match against Buffalo en route to a 1-4-1 weekend at the Rawlins Invite on Friday and Saturday.

Torrington opened the weekend on Friday with a split with Buffalo. Torrington won the first set 21-20 but lost the second set 21-12.

Junior Olive Osmera recorded six kills, while senior Alyssa Albaugh added four. Sophomores Natalie Long and Trishell Pontarolo shared a block, while junior Jaycee Hurley tallied eight digs. Long also led the team with eight assists.

Later in the afternoon, Torrington fell to the Lovell Bulldogs 2-0 (21-20, 21-16).

Osmera led the team with five kills, while sophomore Brooklyn Asmus had four. Asmus added three aces, while Long and junior Teryn Stokes had one block each. Hurley had seven digs, while Long had eight assists.

The Lady Blazers capped off Friday with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-19) loss to the Pinedale Wranglers.

Albaugh, Osmera and Stokes had four kills each, while Hurley and Albaugh had one ace apiece. Albaugh and Long shared a block, while Hurley and sophomore Kennedy Reinhardt had five digs each. Long handed out 14 assists.

On Saturday morning, Torrington opened the day with a 2-0 win over the Moorcroft Wolves. The Lady Blazers picked up a 21-13, 21-16 victory.

Albaugh and Osmera recorded six kills each, while Asmus had five. Albaugh tallied all four of the team’s aces, while Hurley had eight digs. Long had 17 assists.

In the second match of the day, Torrington fell 2-1 to the Worland Lady Warriors. Torrington won the opening set 21-13 before falling 21-18, 15-8 in the final two sets.

Albaugh and Osmera had five kills each, while Stokes had four. Stokes led the team with three total blocks, while Hurley had 13 digs and Long 12 assists.

In the final match of the weekend, Torrington fell 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) to the Lander Valley Lady Tigers.

Osmera had five kills, while Albaugh had four. Long served up the team’s only ace to go along with nine assists. The Lady Blazers had no blocks in the match, but Hurley had 10 digs.

The Lady Blazers 5-7-1 overall and 1-0 in the 3A Southeast Quadrant hosts Douglas on Thursday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Wheatland for a 3 p.m. contest on Friday.
