THS hosts East softball quad

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers softball team posted an busy weekend as the host of the non-conference Eastside Quad at Jirdon Park on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3. The tournament featured four games for the Lady Blazers against rivals from the North Conference.

Torrington opened with an intense cliffhanger game against Worland on Friday afternoon. The game reached a stalemate in both the fifth and sixth innings before Worland tallied a single run in the seventh to take the win, 8-7.

The Lady Blazers went on to play the Thunder Basin High School Bolts with Torrington coming up short, 9-3.

Saturday morning found the Lady Blazers in action against Sheridan. Torrington led through the first two innings before Sheridan pulled up in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. Despite a battle by the Lady Blazers to close the gap in the bottom of the fifth inning, Sheridan won, 16-11.

The final game pitted the Lady Blazers against Campbell County High School with Torrington falling, 20-8.

Worland

The Lady Blazers won the first inning, 3-1. 

In the bottom of the first, sophomores Kadence Schamel and Rein Coulson both doubled for two RBI each while junior Skyla Wunder singled, driving in one.

Worland outscored Torrington in the second and third innings, 3-0 and 2-1, respectively, to take the lead, 6-4.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, Torrington’s fielders shut out Worland in the top of the fifth. 

Two runs by the Lady Blazers in the bottom of the fifth tied the game, 6-6. Freshman Shaylyn Wunder tripled for one RBI and junior Kennedy Reinhardt singled, driving in one.

The deadlock continued into the sixth inning with one run apiece by both opponents. Coulson tripled for Torrington in the bottom of the sixth for one run.

Worland scored the decisive run in the top of the seventh inning while preventing the Lady Blazers from scoring in the bottom.

Torrington tallied 13 hits against Worland, led by Coulson and Reinhardt with three each. Kadence Schamel and Shaylyn Wunder both recorded two hits with one apiece by freshman Olivia Meyer, Skyla Wunder and senior Hope Hager.

Freshman Jadah Jacobson opened as pitcher for the Lady Blazers, striking out one over two innings. Reinhardt came in as relief, striking out five.

Sheridan

The Lady Blazers opened the third game with six runs in the top of the first inning while holding Sheridan to four in the bottom.

Skyla Wunder stepped up to bat in the bottom of the first, smashing a home run into center field for three RBI.

Reinhardt and Hope Hager both singled for one RBI apiece while sophomore Aftyn Hager reached home on a throw.

Sheridan pulled up with three runs in the top of the third and four in the fourth while preventing Torrington from scoring in the bottom of both innings.

Both teams collected five runs in the fifth inning as Torrington battled to bridge the deficit in the bottom. Skyla Wunder singled, driving in Coulson before Wunder scored on an error.

Junior Sinai Hernandez doubled for one RBI while Reinhardt and Hope Hager each singled.

The Lady Blazers totaled 14 hits against Sheridan. Skyla Wunder, Shaylyn Wunder, Reinhardt, freshman Aftyn Hager and Hope Hager collected two hits apiece with one by Hernandez.

Jacobson opened as pitcher for Torrington with Reinhardt playing relief and striking out one.
