WHEATLAND – The Torrington High School boys and girls wrestling teams notched five victories in a series of duals at the Wheatland Quad on Tuesday, January 21.
Wheatland hosted Torrington, Douglas and Newcastle at the event. In the boys division, the teams competed in three duals against each opponent while the girls hit the mats for two duals.
The Lady Blazers defeated both Douglas and Wheatland by a 12-0 margin.
The Blazer boys squared off against Douglas in the first dual, winning a point-for-point battle by a single decisive match, 42-36.
Torrington went on to rout Newcastle, 66-10, in the second dual before soundly defeating the host school, 54-29, in the final dual to post an undefeated record.
Individually, six Blazers posted 3-0 records – senior Tyler Nicolay, senior Barrett Eichenberger, junior Colby Sandusky, junior Brendan Woodard, senior Kaden Romig and freshman David Ibarra.
Freshman Catherine Hendricks went undefeated in both girls’ duals.
Girls duals
Hendricks pinned Malaya Goss 3 minutes, 37 seconds into the 120-pound match during the Douglas dual. The freshman felled Wheatland’s Corrine Gaby with 17 seconds remaining in the first period of the second dual.
In the Douglas dual, freshman Makayla Burkart pinned Nico Frausto at 1:45 in the 135-pound match.
Sophomore Iree Hershey defeated Audrey Davis by fall at 1:27 in the 155-pound match of the Wheatland dual.

Barrett Eichenberger pinned Jack Noblin in the second period of the 138-pound match.
At 150 pounds, Sandusky took down Rylynn Cowan 56 seconds into the first period.
Woodard won by fall against Kash Lenzen in the 157-pound match.
In the 165-pound match, Romig scored six team points after pinning Treysen Parker only 19 seconds into the first period.
Freshman Brandt Eichenberger pinned Michael Rouse with 28 seconds remaining in the first period of the 175-pound match.
Tallying six additional points for the Blazers, Ibarra took down Jackson Boggs at 3:31 in the 190-pound match.
Nicolay won by open forfeit.
THS boys vs. Newcastle
Nicolay scored the first six points for Torrington after pinning Troy Christensen 46 seconds into the 120-pound match.
Freshman Skylen Teague defeated Cayson Phillips by fall at 4:26 in the 126-pound match.
At 132 pounds, sophomore Brogan Dykes felled T.J. Harrington at 46 seconds.
In the 138-pound match, Barrett Eichenberger took down Connor Helwig with 1:13 remaining in the second period.
Scoring six points for the Blazers, Romig pinned Dane Crabtree 35 seconds into the 165-pound match.
Ibarra won the 190-pound match by fall against Gustavo Munoz at 38 seconds.
Senior Moses Lopez punched in six points for the Blazers after pinning Damien Ankeney midway into the first period of the 215-pound match.
Sophomore Aaraon Chavez took down Jonathan Bainer at 59 seconds in the 285-pound match.
Sandusky and Woodard won by open forfeit.

Nicolay won the first match at 120 pounds by fall against Kael Gudahl.
Teague pinned Izak Goodro midway into the first period of the 126-pound match.
At 138 pounds, Barrett Eichenberger took down Steven Reece with 21 seconds remaining in the first period.
Woodard tallied six points for the Blazers after pinning Wyatt Fitzwater at 38 seconds in the 157-pound match.
Ibarra won the 190-pound match versus Tyrell Weber by pin with nine seconds remaining in the third period.
Sandusky, Romig, Chavez and freshman Montrose Boggess each won by open forfeit.
The Blazers travel to Lander for a two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday, January 24-25. Full results from the event will run in next Wednesday’s edition of the Torrington Telegram.
