SIDNEY, NEBRASKA – Both the Torrington High School boys and girls’ wrestling team snapped up 12th place out of 17 teams competing at the Sidney-Bridgeport Invitational in Nebraska on Saturday, December 21. Torrington tallied 140.5 team points.
Two Blazers advanced to the championship round in Sidney and won the title in their respective weight divisions. Senior Barrett Eichenberger captured the 138-pound championship. Eichenberger pinned Alliance’s Hunter Bridges in the semifinal match with three seconds remaining in the first period.
Advancing to the title match, Eichenberger defeated Uzziah Voss of Mitchell by a 9-5 decision.
Junior Brendan Woodard cliched the championship in the 165-pound bracket. Woodard felled Mullen’s Jason Kraus 38 seconds into the semifinal match.
In the title round, Woodard pinned teammate and junior Ty Albaugh at 58 seconds.
Albaugh advanced to the first-place match and took second after pinning Cheyenne East’s Vander Jonas with two seconds remaining in the first period of the semifinals at 165 pounds.
Senior Kaden Romig secured second place in the 175-pound division. Romig pinned Bridgeport’s Adam Staman at 1 minute, 20 seconds into the semifinals.
At 157 pounds, junior Colby Sandusky garnered silver. Sandusky won by fall over Gering’s Gabe Milton 1:19 in the semifinals.
Freshman Brandt Eichenberger finished third at 175 pounds. Eichenberger defeated Adam Staman of Bridgeport by a 12-5 decision in the third-place match.
Senior Griffin Wolfe secured fourth place in the 138-pound bracket. Fifth-place finishes included junior Jaeden Ruiz at 150 pounds and freshman David Ibarra in the 215-pound bracket.
Girls wrestling
The Lady Blazers tallied 48 team points in a field including 17 teams from across Wyoming and Nebraska.
Freshman Catherine Hendricks led the Torrington pack with a fourth-place finish in the 125-pound bracket. Hendricks won the quarterfinal match by pinning Ogallala’s Tristan Hochstine with five seconds remaining in the first period.
Junior Aubree Fahrmeyer finished fifth in the 140-pound bracket, battling her way back through the consolation rounds to pin Kalli Garcia of Burns/Pine Bluffs 34 seconds into the fifth-place match.
In the 155-pound division, sophomore Iree Hershey took fifth place. Hershey pinned fellow sophomore and teammate Jenna Woodard 35 seconds into the fifth-place match.
Woodard took sixth place at 155 pounds, pinning Chloe Jenkins of Scottsbluff 40 seconds into the consolation semifinal.
