DOUGLAS – The weather cooperated for the Torrington High School golf team to open the spring season at the Douglas Invitational. The event took place at the Douglas Country Club and consisted of a single round on Friday, April 5.
The Lady Blazers clinched third place as a team, tallying 305 strokes following the first round. Junior Madyson Banister broke into the girls’ top 10, shooting 96 on the day.
The Blazers took eighth as a team with 356 strokes, beating the host school, Cheyenne South and Laramie.
“Considering the weather was cold and very windy, I thought our kids played well for the first time out this season,” coach Jeff Halley said. “Our girls especially had some good scores with Madyson in the top 10 and the team placing third behind two 4A schools.”
Junior Kayleigh Waymire finished close to the top 10 on the girls’ leaderboard with a score of 102. Fellow junior Sarah Birdsall shot 107, with sophomore Grace Kelly 111 and Madison Gibson 112.
Sophomore Caleb Kelly led the Torrington boys with a score of 85. Sophomore Spencer Booth finished close on Kelly’s heels, tallying 86 strokes. Junior Mason Wilkes shot 92, sophomore Conner Correll 93 and Wyatt Lynde 96.
