THS golfers host spring invite

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School golf team battled tough opponents from 4A and 3A schools at the annual spring invitational the team hosted at Cottonwood Golf Course on Friday, May 2.

Collecting 350 strokes over the course of one round, the Torrington boys’ varsity team bagged fifth place overall, pulling ahead of Natrona County, Thunder Basin, Douglas, Cheyenne South and Rawlins on the team leaderboard. The junior varsity “silver” team took ninth place with 413 strokes.

In the girls’ tournament, the Lady Blazers finished fifth as a team, shooting 318 strokes.

Senior Madyson Banister broke into the top 10 and led the Torrington girls with a ninth-place finish, grossing 99 strokes over one round.

Senior Sarah Birdsall tallied 104 strokes while freshman Olivia Edmunds shot 115, junior Grace Kelly 116 and senior Madison Gibson 129.

Freshman Logan Dyer represented the girls’ junior varsity “silver” team with a score of 144 strokes.

In the boys’ competition, junior Caleb Kelly paced the Blazers, shooting a one-round score of 86 strokes.

Junior Connor Correll totaled 87 strokes with Wyatt Lynde tallying 87, junior Spencer Booth 89 and sophomore Mason Unverzagt 93.

The Torrington boys’ “silver” team included sophomore Hadley Evans (90 strokes), junior Mateo Correa (105), senior Weston Dyer (106) and senior Griffin Wolfe (112).
