CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School golf teams saw an improvement from week one to week two of the season at the Cheyenne’s Airport Golf Club last Thursday and Friday.

“We had a much better showing this week,” THS coach Jeff Halley said. “Most of the kids scores came down, and we had a lot of personal bests.”

The Torrington boys finished 12th out of 14 teams, while the Lady Blazers placed tied for eighth out of 12 teams.

“It’s tough to be in the hunt with so many 4A kids, but I really thought we made a nice effort this week and took down a few teams that beat us last week,” Halley said.

In the boys’ division, Caleb Kelly led the Blazers with rounds of 79 and 86 for a weekend total of 165 to place 33rd. Spencer Booth placed 50th after rounds of 84 and 95 for a two-day total of 179. Mason Wilkes placed two spots back of Booth, finishing tied for 52nd with rounds of 94 and 88 for a total of 182. Mason Unverzagt placed 62nd with a total of 203 following rounds of 105 and 98.

As a team, the Blazers had rounds of 351 and 367 for a total of 718. Cheyenne East won the team title with 585, while Kelly Walsh was second with 609. Wheatland was third with 619.

In the girls’ division, Kayleigh Waymire shot rounds of 95 and 92 to finish tied for 18th with a 187. Maydson Banister finished 31st with rounds of 104 and 93 for a total of 197. Madison Gibson placed 40th with a 219 following rounds of 112 and 107.

As a team, the Lady Blazers had rounds of 311 and 292 to finish tied for eighth with a 603. Natrona County won the team title with 501, while Wheatland girls were second with 508.

“Hopefully we will continue to improve and make a nice showing at home next week,” Halley said.

Torrington hosts this week’s tournament at the Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course on Thursday and Friday.

Campbell County, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East JV, Cheyenne South, Douglas, Laramie, Thunder Basin and Wheatland are also expected to attend.

Action gets underway at 10 a.m. both days.
