DOUGLAS – The Torrington High School golf team boarded the bus for an intense day of competition hosted by the Bearcats at the Douglas Country Club on Thursday, April 24.
The Lady Blazers battled their way to the No. 2 spot on the girls’ team leaderboard. Seven teams competed on Thursday with Kelly Walsh taking the top spot.
The Torrington boys team took seventh place with a “solid score” of 336, coach Jeff Halley said.
“We had a really good day in Douglas against some quality 4A and 3A teams,” Halley added.
In the girls’ competition, senior Madyson Banister led the Lady Blazers with a tie for fifth place. Banister shot 93 strokes over the course of a single round.
Junior Grace Kelly posted a career best of 104 strokes to place 13th.
Senior Sarah Birdsall advanced to No. 14 on the leaderboard, grossing 105 strokes.
Freshman Olivia Edmunds came in 15th place with a score of 107 while senior Madison Gibson placed 17th at 112 strokes.
Junior Caleb Kelly tallied 79 strokes in the boys’ division to tie for seventh place.
Senior Mason Wilkes progressed to 22nd place with 84 strokes.
Shooting 86 strokes, sophomore Mason Unverzagt finished 30th.
Wyatt Lynde and junior Spencer Booth tied for 34th place, grossing 87 strokes apiece.
The Blazers and Lady Blazers host the Torrington spring invitational at Cottonwood Golf Course on Friday, May 2. Tee time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
