TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School girls’ basketball team fell to 7-7 on the season after falling to the Gering (Nebraska) Lady Bulldogs and the Buffalo Lady Bison last weekend.

On Tuesday, the Lady Blazers fell to Gering 54-38.

Torrington fell behind 12-4 after one quarter, and the Lady Blazers started to find their offense in the second quarter, scoring 13 points despite trailing eight at 25-17 heading into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Gering started to pull away, handing the visitors a 16-points loss.

THS junior Marina Pastalle led the Lady Blazers with 11 points, while sophomore Teryn Stokes and senior Marissa Moorehouse had eight each.

On Saturday, Buffalo never trailed in a 61-41 victory over Torrington.

It took the Lady Blazers three and half minutes to put in their first points of the game. During that slow start, Buffalo also struggled to find the bottom of the net, scoring only four points.

Sophomore Olive Osmera cut the Buffalo lead in half at 4-2 with 4:28 left in the opening quarter.

It proved to be the closest Torrington came to seeing the lead on Saturday.

The Lady Bison scored eight of the next 10 points en route to leading 20-9 after one quarter.

Buffalo extended the lead to 36-18 at half.

The visitors lead reached as many as 22 early in the third quarter.

Torrington made a brief run early in the third quarter. Senior Carleigh Dugger, Osmera and senior Kalissa Reyes scored two each in a 6-0 run, cutting the Buffalo lead to 50-36 with 5:29 left in the game. However, a Lady Bison 3-pointer put a quick end to the run as Buffalo was able to extend the lead back to 20 in the final moments of the game.

Stokes led the team with 14 points, while Moorehouse added 11. Osmera and Reyes had six each.

Torrington travels to Douglas on Friday, Feb. 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
