THS boys undefeated at Charlie Lake Duals

CHEYENNE – The Torrington High School Blazer boys’ wrestling team topped off a successful and busy opening week of the 2024-2025 season with an undefeated record at the Charlie Lake Duals in Cheyenne on Friday, December 13.

The Blazers won all five of its duals at the event to capture gold in the Black Bracket out of 10 teams. Torrington defeated Douglas, Moorcroft and Sidney, Nebraska in the opening three duals. 

In the semifinals, the Blazers knocked out Ogallala, Nebraska before defeating Laramie in the title dual.

On Saturday, Torrington competed at the bracket-style Charlie Lake invitational, also in Cheyenne. The Blazers placed 14th out of 26 schools with 60 team points.

Torrington formally opened the regular season with a 54-6 victory against Cheyenne South at a home dual on Thursday, December 12.

Charlie Lake duals

The Blazers commenced the duals by trouncing Douglas, 43-15, in the opening match. Progressing to the second dual, Torrington dispatched Moorcroft by a 13-point margin, 43-30.

The third dual pitted Torrington against Sidney, Nebraska. The Blazers battled their opponent to a 47-36 victory.

In the semifinals, Torrington overwhelmed Ogallala, Nebraska, 69-12. 

The Blazers squared off against Laramie in the title match with Torrington winning by a 54-28 margin.

Four Blazers went undefeated at the Charlie Lake duals – senior Tyler Nicolay at 120 pounds, freshman Skylen Teague at 132 pounds, senior Barrett Eichenberger at 144 pounds and junior Brendan Woodard at 165 pounds.

Senior Griffin Wolfe (138 pounds), junior Jaeden Ruiz (150 pounds), junior Colby Sandusky (157 pounds) senior Kaden Romig (175 pounds) and freshman Brandt Eichenberger  (190 pouonds) each went 4-1.

Freshman Bo Leever posted a 3-2 record at 113 pounds. Fellow freshman David Ibarra went 2-3 at 215 pounds while sophomore Aaraon Chavez went 1-4 at 285 pounds.

Charlie Lake invitational

Three Blazers snagged hardware at the Charlie Lake Invitational. 

Barrett Eichenberger captured third place at 144 pounds, pinning Crayton Fries of Minatare, Nebraska, 1 minute, 9 seconds into the opening match. Eichenberger went on to defeat Atlas Grosch of Chatfield, Colorado, by a 6-3 sudden victory in the quarterfinals.

In the third-place match, Barrett Eichenberger won over Moorcroft’s Brayden Terry by a 5-4 decision.

Woodard clinched third place in the 165-pound weight division. In the opening match, Woodard pinned Cheyenne South’s Cael Henderson at 27 seconds.

Advancing to the quarterfinals, Woodard pinned Brady Garoutte of Moorcroft with 40 seconds remaining in the first period.

Woodard felled Tyler Muir of Erie, Colorado, at 1:47 in the third-place match.

Sandusky finished fourth in the 157-pound bracket. Sandusky won the opening round by fall at 2:42 against Sidney’s Owen Gillham. Squaring off against Moorcroft’s Riley DeHaven in the quarterfinals, Sandusky pinned his opponent at 1:39.
