THS boys third at Basin Nation Invite

GILLETTE – The Torrington High School boys’ indoor track and field team finished third with 66.5 points at the Basin Nation Invite on Friday in Gillette.

The Blazers were the highest finishing 3A team as Natrona County won the team title with 118 points, while Cheyenne Central placed second with 111.5.

Brendan Flock won the 200-meter dash in 23.50 seconds, and the THS senior finished second in the 55-meter dash in 6.61 seconds out more than 130 registered runners in the event.

In the 400-meter dash, Slade Hopkins won the event in 52.39 seconds, beating out Flock, who finished second. 

In the 800-meter run, THS senior Aydan Loya finished second in 2 minutes, 3.31 seconds, and in the mile, Loya finished sixth in 4:33.17.

In relay action, the 4x200 team of Wyatt Campbell, Dylan Packard, Matthew Chapman and Kaiden Riggs finished eighth in 1:42.03.

In field events, Dawson Mullock finished fifth in high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches, while Benjamin Fuller was third in long jump at 20-9.

In shot put, Ty Bennick won the event with a toss of 50-9.25. His throw was the only distance to top 50 feet.

In the girls’ division, the Lady Blazers finished sixth with 37 points. Cheyenne Central won the team title with 94.5 points, while Natrona County was second with 74.5. Thunder Basin was third with 71.

Brooklyn Asmus finished seventh in the 55-meter dash final in 7.59 seconds. Asmus also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 400-meter dash.

In relay action, the 4x200 team of Grace Gibson, Natalie Hawes, Jada Kaufman and Emma Walker finished one spot out of earning points with a ninth-place finish in 1:57.80, while the 4x800 team of Amberly Froerer, Tiffany Krueger, Kailey Porter and Callie Taylor finished fifth in 11:40.64.

In field events, Alyssa Wondercheck won long jump by nearly eight inches with a leap of 17-6, while Trishell Pontarolo won triple jump at 33-6.75. 

In shot put, Harper Boche finished third at 39-9.75.

The Blazers return to Gillette this weekend for the Broncs Invitational hosted Sheridan High School. Action gets underway at 10 a.m.
