Tech Guys’ new door

TORRINGTON – Derek (Deke) Baker and Jason Cain are no strangers to technology. Matter of fact, if you have faced computer problems in the past and turned to the Tech Guys at Torrington Office Supply, the duo has more than likely worked on your products.

Baker and Cain decided to open doors at the 21st and Main building to continue to provide Torrington and the surrounding area with custom PC building, virus removal, home and business networking, diagnostics and repair as well as a general upgrade to your current system.

“We’re a computer repair service. What we had over there at Torrington Office Supply is tech guys that we had in there,” Baker explained. “I got to take the name with me, and I turned it into a corporation or an LLC.”

“Well, we have,” Cain said.

“We work on computers. We do a lot of networking, diagnostics, antivirus, upgrading, updating, custom builds,” Baker further explained.

According to both Cain and Baker, custom built computers are becoming increasingly popular.

“Maybe not in the town of Torrington, but because my son is a gamer, I built him one. That system is amazing,” Cain expressed. “But custom building is, depending on the needs of wants of the customer, and price of course. You buy cases, it’s got a nice glass on it and you can get all of the lights and the power supplies. Depending on how hard of a gamer they’re going to be, you order the motherboard, huge processors, aftermarket heat sinks because you don’t want to use the ones they come with. You need something that is going to cool this baby,” Cain said pointing to a large computer tower. “You can go all out with custom builds. It’s like building a car.”

Custom builds aren’t the only highlight the Tech Guys have to offer. They provide technical support when customers need it most.

“We do on-site repair. We can come up to your house, your place of work and work on computers,” Baker explained. “If it’s extensive enough, we have to bring it in to work on it. We have one computer right now that we’re doing work on. The computer is just ultra slow. It’s like 15-20 years old. You’re starting out with Windows 10, but you’re on the very first build of Windows 10, which is ultra slow. So, we bring it in, copy it to a false state drive, which is a lot faster than the mechanical drives that are out there and we can start updating it.”

Although the duo covers Goshen County currently, both have a dream to further grow the company to service Wheatland, Lusk and beyond.

“We’re looking at doing Henry, Morrill and doing the surrounding area and stuff. If we can start working on getting all that, we’re looking at going even further out if we’d like to do so,” Baker said.

“We absolutely will do on-site service calls,” Cain reflected. “Try and address if they have an issue. Now, you know, us leaving the office, we’re just starting out. We have to charge a service fee. If we go to your house, we charge a $30 service fee. But if we’re only there 10-15 minutes, that’s all we’re going to charge is the $30 service fee. If it is more extensive, we charge $60 an hour, which I think is fair.”

According to the guys, they can even help unlock email accounts.

“I’ve gotten calls where I have to go to somebody’s house and their email account got locked up. Sometimes it is something simple and sometimes, it’s complicated,” Cain explained.

The store is open on the weekends to fit the schedules of the busy community as well as Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We’re open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. That’s for people who can’t make it into us during the day since we’re only open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” Baker explained. “We have a phone number (307) 545-6700 and we have our cell phones. If someone has some of our old business cards, they can get a hold of us through there.”
