Spirits Bar & Grill plans restaurant closure
Manager blames slow sales, economy

TORRINGTON – Residents have less than two weeks to dine at the restaurant portion of Spirits Sports Bar & Grill before the establishment closes indefinitely.
Sunday, Dec. 31 is the last day for the local eatery, restaurant manager Scott Maag confirmed earlier this week.
Employees were informed of the closure at a staff meeting Monday morning, and signs posted on the building’s doors read as follows:
“To all Spirits Sports Bar & Grill customers: Due to the local economy, we are sad to announce that Dec. 31, 2017, will be our last day for servicing our dining room customers. Beginning Jan. 1, the kitchen and dining room will be closed to service until further notice. Sadly, we are no longer able to sustain this part of the business. The sports bar will begin opening at 4 p.m. with a special bar menu and regular bar drink service, open 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The liquor store will also remain open with normal business hours.”
In addition, the gas station will continue to operate as usual, Maag said.
“The restaurant is currently up for lease … there have been some conversations, but nothing’s been written yet,” he added in response to inquiries about the establishment opening in the future.
Reviews for the dining establishment included 4.3 out of 5 stars on Facebook, 5 stars on Google, 2.5 stars on Yelp and a 3.5-star rating from TripAdvisor.
“Just unfortunately, (we’ve experienced) slow sales and the current economy,” Maag said of the decision to close.
Spirits Sports Bar & Grill is located at 1500 East Valley Rd. in Torrington.
