KAYCEE – The Southeast High School volleyball team finished the weekend 6-0 at the annual 1A Jamboree in Kaycee.
The WyoPreps.com Class 1A top-ranked Lady Cyclones opened the weekend against Campbell County High School freshmen. Southeast breezed through the opening match 21-8, 21-10.
Senior Sydney Anderson led the team with seven kills, while sophomore Brooklyn Leithead and senior Shelby Ekwall had four each. As a team, the Lady Cyclones served up seven aces, including four from senior Kealy Carson. Senior Brenna Herring led the team with two blocks, while Leithead and junior Kylee Llewellyn added one each.
In the second pool play match of the day, Southeast defeated the Upton Bobcats 21-6, 21-19.
Herring had seven kills and two blocks to lead the Lady Cyclones. Junior Baylie Booth dished out six assists. Carson served up a team-high four assists.
In the final pool match of the day, Southeast knocked off Hanna-Elk Mountain 25-11, 25-9, 25-8.
Carson and Ekwall led the offensive attack with eight kills each, while Anderson added five. As a team, the Lady Cyclones tallied 13 aces, including a team-high five from Anderson. Herring and Leithead had one solo block each, while Herring dished out 15 assists.
With a 3-0 record in pool play, it placed the Lady Cyclones in the Gold Bracket on Saturday.
Southeast opened the day with a 25-18, 25-7 sweep of Rock River.
Ekwall led the team with six kills, while Carson added five. Anderson served up three aces, while Herring recorded three solo blocks. Booth had nine assists.
In the semifinal round, Southeast defeated defending state champion and tournament host Kaycee 2-1.
Southeast dropped the first set 26-24 but rebounded with 25-16 and 15-6 wins to advance to the championship.
Anderson had 10 kills, while Herring had nine. Southeast players combined for 11 solo blocks, led by Anderson with four and Leithead with three.
The win setup a championship match with Hulett. The Lady Red Devils came into the match hoping to keep a double-digit win streak alive.
Southeast ended the streak with a 25-22, 25-19 victory over the Lady Red Devils.
Ekwall had six kills, while Carson and Anderson added four. Herring had three blocks and 10 assists, while Ekwall had two blocks.
With the weekend’s six victories, Southeast improves to 18-5 on the season.
The Lady Cyclones are back in action at Burns on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m.
