YODER  The Southeast High School Lady Cyclones volleyball team capped off a successful regular season with three victories over the course of a busy weekend from October 24-26.

Southeast finished the regular season with an undefeated 9-0 conference record in the 1A Southeast Quadrant and a 23-4 overall record. The Lady Cyclones enter the 1A East regional tournament in Guernsey as the unchallenged No. 1 seed and is one of two 1A programs in Wyoming with an undefeated conference record (Upton is the other). Southeast plays the No. 4 seed from the Northeast, Arvada-Clearmont, at regionals on Friday, November 1. Game time is scheduled for 9 a.m.

“Going undefeated in 1A Southeast and SEWAC is an accomplishment,” coach Monica Anderson said. “We started the season strong and stayed strong. I was really happy with how we finished the (regular) season.”

The action opened with the Lady Cyclones defeating Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) in a clean sweep for the second cross-county rivalry match on Thursday, October 24.

Friday featured a match against non-conference 2A rival Pine Bluffs. Southeast triumphed, 3-1, demonstrating the team’s ability to battle with tenacity and exceptional team chemistry through four neck-and-neck sets to win.

Southeast capped off the weekend with a clean sweep against Niobrara County High School (NCHS) for senior recognition day at home on Saturday.

“These three games were great preparation for the postseason,” Anderson added. “All three opponents were competitive and they challenged us to focus on what we do and play consistently. Each game provided opportunities for us and we rose to the opportunity in all three games.”

LFL

While the cross-county rivalry between the Lady Cyclones and the Lady Doggers on Thursday proved closer than the first match earlier in the season, Southeast prevailed in three sets.

The Lady Cyclones won the first set by a margin of nine, 25-16. The Lady Cyclones maintained the pressure to win the closely contested second and third sets, 25-20 and 25-19, respectively.

“(LFL) is always fun to play and made for a great matchup,” Anderson said. “We were able to play consistently all the way through.”

Senior Brooklyn Leithead led the Lady Cyclones offense with nine kills. Junior Hadley Leithead and sophomore Brylie Booth both contributed eight kills with senior Angie Logsdon tallying six.

On the service line, Logsdon aced six serves while Hadley Leithead and Brooklyn Leithead each served up three aces.

Junior Keana Llewellyn played setter and delivered 29 assists.

Defensively, Brooklyn Leithead covered the floor with 15 digs. Logsdon totaled eight digs with seven apiece from Booth and junior Taylor Tregemba.

Booth defended the net with one block.

Pine Bluffs

The Lady Cyclones battled back to win the third set, 25-19.

The fourth set came down to the wire with Southeast coming together to score two decisive points to win, 26-24.

“Pine Bluffs has improved a lot this season and really brought it on Friday,” Anderson said. “It was a fun and competitive match and tested our grit. The girls dug deep and trusted in the team and themselves to do what was needed.”

Brooklyn Leithead set the momentum for the Southeast offense with 11 kills. Logsdon totaled 10 kills, Booth seven, Hadley Leithead five, Llewellyn two and senior Anna Hartman one.
