PINE BLUFFS – The Southeast High School Cyclones and Lady Cyclones opened the 2025 outdoor track season with plenty of hardware and new PRs at the Pine Bluffs Early Bird Meet on Friday, March 28.
The meet featured squads from each classification, from 4A Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East to 1A Southeast.
The Southeast girls advanced to sixth place on the team leaderboard with 51.5 points to beat Alliance, the host school and Niobrara County.
Junior Kaycee Kosmicki snagged gold in the girls’ 400-meters, reaching the finish line with a time of 1 minute, 3.04 seconds. Kosmicki beat the runner-up from Wright by 1.28 seconds.
Kosmicki, senior Angie Logsdon, freshman Kaylee Moats and sophomore Bailey Mehling won the girls’ 1600-meter sprint medley relay with a time of 4:43.85. The team finished with nearly three seconds to spare over Chadron.
“We had a great meet Friday in Pine,” girls’ coach Jeff Fullmer said. “We had some good times posted for the first meet of the year. We also had several girls prequalify for state already. We need to continue to compete in practice against each other and make sure we are getting better each week. We are excited to get the opportunity to compete in Bayard on Saturday.”
A smaller Southeast boys’ squad placed ninth as a team with 19.5 points.
“For the first meet, we had some pretty good marks,” boys’ coach Jeff Logsdon said. “(Sophomore) Trevor Jolovich hit a PR in the triple jump from last year by two feet. (Senior) Kannon Tippetts ran strong for the first meet – he’s only going to get better. (Sophomore) Connor Coxbill did very well in the triple jump and relays. A runner to look out for in the future is (freshman) Cole Tregemba in distance. He turned in some good times for the first meet and by state, he’ll definitely be competing for a top spot. Senior William Knowlton is a workhorse in practice and it definitely shows on the track (in distance events).”
