Southeast goes 3-1 over the weekend

MITCHELL, Neb. – The Southeast High School picked up three wins over the weekend, defeating Niobrara County, Pine Bluffs and Gordon-Rushville (Nebraska).

Action got underway on Friday evening with a 3-1 victory over SEWAC foe Niobrara County.

The Lady Cyclones defeated the Lady Tigers 25-8 and 25-15 in the first two sets. The visitors prevented the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third set, but Southeast won the fourth set 25-21 to secure the victory.

Junior Angie Logsdon, while senior Kylee Llewellyn added eight. As a team, the Lady Cyclones served up 18 aces, including a team-high six from sophomore Keana Llewellyn. Keana also dished out 17 assists, while Baylie Booth had 12. Senior Sasha Haines had 22 digs. Keana Llewellyn, junior Brooklyn Leithead and freshman Brylie Booth had two stuff blocks.

The next day, Southeast traveled to Mitchell, Nebraska for a single-day tournament.

The Lady Cyclones went 2-1 on the day, opening Saturday with a sweep of SEWAC foe Pine Bluffs 25-16 and 25-19.

Southeast was slow out of the gates, allowing the Lady Hornets to score the first three points of the match.

After a timeout, the Lady Cyclones chipped away at the deficit, and Keana Llewellyn tied the match with one of her two aces. The next attack by Pine Bluffs resulted in an error and a 7-6 lead for Southeast.

The Lady Cyclones never trailed for the remainder of the set and match.

In the second set, Southeast raced out to a 10-3, cruising to the two-set sweep.

In the second round of pool play, the Lady Cyclones fell to undefeated Bayard (Nebraska) Tigers 25-8 and 25-10.

Southeast kept it close early after a kill by sophomore Hadley Leithead. The score cut the deficit to 4-3, but Bayard scored the next eight points, forcing Southeast to use both of its timeouts early in the set.

In the second set, the Lady Tigers scored the first 12 points of the season en route to the sweep.

Kylee Llewellyn led Southeast with four kills, while Logsdon had three. Haines had 10 digs, while Baylie Booth had four assists.

In the final game of the weekend, the Lady Cyclones knocked off Gordon-Rushville 25-12, 25-14.

Hadley Leithead, Kylee Llewellyn and Brylie Booth had four kills each, while senior Tylar Stoddard led the team with two aces. Keana Llewellyn had 11 assists.

The Lady Cyclones (8-5 overall and 2-0 in the 1A Southeast Quadrant) travels to Rock River and Hanna-Elk Mountain on Saturday Sept. 30. They play Rock River at 11 a.m. and HEM at 3 p.m.
