TORRINGTON – Even though they were missing the usual 20 points from senior Shelby Ekwall, the Southeast Lady Cyclone track team still managed to come in first at the T-Town Qualifier last Friday.
Leading the charge for the girls was junior Sasha Haines as she placed fifth in the 100-meter dash, third in the 400 and was a part of the 4x100 relay who took first and the 4x400m relay who earned second.
Also taking some command was sophomore Angie Logsdon as she was the lone standing girl in pole vault for Southeast, but that didn’t stop her from taking first place by a whole foot. She also was eighth in the 100 hurdles and was a part of the sprint medley team that took second place. Logsdon also was fourth in the triple jump. In the 400, the girls earned the top three spots with freshman Macy Tremain winning gold, junior Tylar Stoddard taking silver and Haines taking bronze.
Other top spots earned by the Southeast girls were from freshman Kennedi Blevins (fifth in the 200m, 4x100m, 4x400m), freshman Kaycee Kosmicki (first in 1,600m) and Stoddard (third in triple jump, sprint medley, 4x400m).
For the throwers taking Ekwall’s top spot was junior Kodie Anderson with a discus throw of 98 feet, 11 inches. Coming in fourth in discus was junior Harper Boche and freshman Hadley Leithead. The girls had no top finishers for throwing this week, but that should change this week.
On the boy’s side of things, it was another impressive showing from the senior trio of Wyatt Campbell, Austin Short and Dawson Mullock. Campbell took first in his individual events (200m and 100m), while Short was third in the 100m. Both were on the 4x100m team that took second and that consisted of Short, Campbell, junior Mathew Chapman and junior Wyatt Gladson. Mullock earned himself second in the long jump before he took off and headed to the Western Classic in Casper.
Unfortunately, those were the only boys who earned top spots for the Cyclones last week. However, knowing coach Mark Bullington, that won’t stop them from coming back and competing.
This week a select few boys and girls from Southeast will be competing in the Best in the West meet in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. A few of the athletes are predicted to bring home gold and a few others will look to surprise some folks, as always it will be a blast watching the athletes compete.
