TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School Blazers and Lady Blazers wrestling teams opened the 2024-2025 winter season with the annual Maroon and Silver duals at the Willi Gym on Monday, December 9.
The event was unofficial and did not count towards the wrestlers’ final standings, but the dual provided an opportunity for wrestlers to showcase their skills and practice going head-to-head against friendly opponents in a real-world competitive setting.
The evening also featured recognition of adults in the community that made an impact on junior and senior wrestlers on the team.
When the dust settled on Monday evening, the silver team won, 48-37.
On the silver team, Kaden Romig, Colby Sandusky, Bo Leever, Brendan Woodard, Aaraon Chavez and Brayden Dykes each pinned their opponent. Tyler Nicolay won his match for the silver team by technical fall.
Representing the silver team, Catherine Hendricks defeated her opponent by an 18-2 major decision. Brandt Eichenberger pulled out a win by a 10-7 decision for the silver team as well.
On the maroon team, Iree Hershey won by fall in two matches. David Ibarra pinned his opponent in one match.
Griffin Wolfe defeated his opponent on the silver team by technical fall in the second period.
Additional maroon team victories included major decision wins by both Barrett Eichenberger (22-4) and Zade Olson (21-7).
The Torrington wrestling teams formally began the regular season at duals hosted by Cheyenne South on Thursday, December 12, followed by the Cheyenne East tournament from December 13-14.
