BRIDGEPORT – A successful weekend for the Torrington Sharks swim team at the Bridgeport meet on June 28 climaxed with 51 new personal records and six gold medals.

Taelyn Stokes clinched bronze in the girls’ 50-meter freestyle for the 9-10-year-old bracket with a new meet record of 39.88 seconds. The previous record stood at 40.58 seconds and was set in 2016.

Stokes went on to capture gold in the 25-meter breaststroke, clocking in at 25.40 seconds and crossing the finish line 0.12 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Alliance.

Lexi Wilkie garnered gold in two individual events for the girls’ 13-14-year-old division. The race for the top two spots in the 50-meter breaststroke came down to three-hundredths of a second. Wilkie won with a time of 51.85 seconds while the second-place finisher from Bridgeport timed in at 51.88 seconds.

On the opposite end of the distance spectrum, Wilkie collected gold in the 400-meter freestyle at 6 minutes, 59.18 seconds. Wilkie beat the runner-up from Bridgeport by 1.61 seconds.

Madyson Banister scooped up her first gold for the season in the girls’ 50-meter breaststroke (15-18 age bracket). Banister won the event with a time of 45.04 seconds.

In the boys’ 100-meter individual medley (11-12-year-old), Cooper Walter snagged gold at 1:53.43. Walter reached the finish line 0.43 seconds ahead of the competition from Alliance.

Trinity Martin swam into first place in the girls’ 50-meter freestyle (15-18 age division), clocking in at 35.42 seconds.

The Sharks take the weekend off before diving into the final competition at the medal meet hosted by Hemingford on Saturday, July 12.
