ALLIANCE, Neb. – The Torrington Sharks Swim Team started their 2023 season last week with a strong showing June 10, 2023, at the Alliance, Nebraska swim meet.

“The Sharks had a strong first swim meet,” Shark head coach Baxter Greenwald said. “We had a lot of swimmers swim personal records as well as some break the meet records.”

The team set three new meet records and finished with fourteen individual and two team relay first-place finishes.

Nathaniel Stull set a meet record for the boys’ 15-18 50-meter backstroke with a time of 37.13. Second-year swimmer Mason Patrick went 2:10.45 in the boys’ 9-10 100-meter individual medley, setting a new meet record. The Sharks relay team of Madix McIntosh, Teryn Stokes, Nathaniel Stull and Griffin Wolfe set a new record in the mixed 15-18 200-meter medley relay with a time of 2:27.02.
First-place individual swimmers were Mason Patrick, Marshall Patrick, Taelyn Stokes, Lexi Wilkie, Nathaniel Stull, Atana Walter, Laney Walter, Cooper Walter, Laney Walter and Emily Milner. Griffin Wolfe, Teryn Stokes, Kristina Hall and Nathanial Stull brought home an additional team relay win.

“It was a really great start to the season. We had 16 first-place finishes, and even more swimmers finish in the top five,” Greenwald said. “We have 55 swimmers on our team this year and had a great showing in Alliance. We look forward to the rest of the season and watching the swimmers continue to improve and cut time in their events.”

The Sharks are coached by Greenwald, Tim Randolph, Kameron Stitt and Tyne Stokes. Students from any Goshen County school are eligible to compete for the Sharks.

The Sharks take the water four more times this summer, including their home meet July 1, 2023, in Torrington at the Dale Jones Municipal Pool, beginning at 9 a.m.

The team heads to Hemingford, Nebraska on Saturday, June 24.
