ALLIANCE – The Torrington Sharks swim team dove into the second week of the 2025 summer season with solid performances at a meet in Alliance, Nebraska, on Saturday, June 14.
Torrington posted multiple PRs and top-eight finishes, including nine gold medals.
Taelyn Stokes recorded a PR in the girls’ 50-meter freestyle for the 9-10-year-old division and shattered the Alliance meet record in the process. Stokes reached the finish line in second place with a time of 38.88 seconds. The previous meet record stood at 40.32 seconds and was set in 2021.
Stokes went on to snag gold in the 25-meter breaststroke, timing in at 27.19 seconds and beating her opponent from Alliance by 1.08 seconds.
Huck Walter collected three golds in the boys’ eight and under (8U) division in Alliance. Walter opened with a win in the 25-meter backstroke, posting a time of 25.80 seconds. Walter finished nearly 12 seconds ahead of the competition from Sidney.
Timing the 25-meter breaststroke in at 28.36 seconds, Huck Walter captured gold by 2.20-second margin over the runner-up from Alliance. Walter rounded the meet out with a first-place finish in the 25-meter freestyle at 24.15 seconds, beating the second-place finisher from Hemingford by just under nine seconds.
In the girls’ 200-meter individual medley (11-12-year-old division), Emily Milner clinched first place with a time of 3 minutes, 59.58 seconds. Milner crossed the finish line nearly 45 seconds faster than the runner-up from Sidney.
Lexi Wilkie garnered gold in the girls’ 50-meter backstroke for the 13-14-year-old classification. Wilkie finished 1.85 seconds ahead of her competition from Hemingford with a time of 45.70 seconds.
Clocking the girls’ 50-meter breaststroke (13-14-year-old) in at 50.59 seconds, Ariana Posten collected first place. Posten won by a 2.14-second margin.
Cooper Walter bagged gold in the boys’ 100-meter individual medley (11-12), posting a time of 1:53.48 and crossing the finish line more than nine seconds ahead of his opponent from Sidney.
In the girls’ long-distance 400-meter freestyle for the 13-14-year-old division, Jaylynn Grant snagged gold at 8:30.65. Grant won with a nearly 25-second margin over the runner-up from Sidney.
