GOSHEN COUNTY – Andrew Atkinson was recently booked into Goshen County Detention Center in Torrington the evening of Tuesday, August 20, on multiple charges from an attack earlier in August.
Atkinson, age 26, has been charged with two counts felony, aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon, one count felony, apply pressure to the throat or neck (simple), and one count felony, child abuse for the August attack and one count felony apply pressure on the throat or neck, one count of failure to appear on a domestic battery misdemeanor warrant and one count of failure to appear warrant on a stealing from 2016.
According to court records on August 12, an additional arrest warrant was issued for the Goshen County resident for the original charges of two counts of aggravated assault and battery, one count of strangulation of a household member and one count child abuse, according to court records obtained August 13, however court documents indicate the August arrest warrant for Atkinson was quashed on August 20.
On August 19, an entry of appearance was entered in the Circuit Court for the Eight Judicial District, Goshen County, State of Wyoming in CR-2024-77, State of Wyoming vs. Andrew Atkinson, indicating Cheyenne Attorney, Joe. D. Bustos entered an appearance on behalf of the defendant, Atkinson.
An amended information record was filed in the court Tuesday.
“According to the affidavit of probable cause filed on Monday, Sherriff Kory Fleenor with the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a social worker regarding a potential domestic violence victim on Sunday, August 4 at approximately 9:29 a.m. Records indicate the incident took place on Saturday, August 3, between Atkinson and the mother of his child, Jane Doe,” according to a previous Telegram article. “Both Doe and her minor child were transported to Banner Health Emergency Room in Wheatland. Doe was later transferred to a higher level of care at Cheyenne Regional West Medical Center, the affidavit explained.”
“Due to the incident, Jane Doe sustained a puncture/collapsed lung as well as bruising and lacerations to her entire body to include her feet. Doe had two black eyes that were almost swollen closed. Doe’s face was also bruised with hematomas that caused her face to appear disfigured,” the court affidavit of probable cause filed earlier this month reads. “Doe received 15 staples and four sutures in her head due to being stuck by the firearm and fists of Atkinson. A chest tube was also placed in her lung due to being forcible struck and kicked in the chest by Atkinson.”
Reports indicate the minor child received lacerations to her forehead and head and received treatment for the injuries at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Forensic Nursing facility, according to the affidavit.
Atkinson is charged with two counts aggravated assault and battery with a maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment, a fine of not more than $10,000, or both, one count strangulation of a household member with a maximum penalty of not more than ten years and or/a $10,000 or both and one count felony child abuse with a maximum penalty of ten year’s imprisonment and/or $10,000 fine.
