TORRINGTON – The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in Torrington on Saturday, April 6 at the Goshen County Rendezvous Center beginning at 5 p.m.

“Since our humble beginning in 1984, RMEF has conserved or enhanced more than 8.7 million acres,” RMEF said in their recent flyer. “Join us for an elk country fundraiser and celebrate this milestone by attending the Oregon Trail Banquet. Torrington has put on great banquets and they get better every year.”

The event is an opportunity to gather for auctions, dinner, game, and fun and according to the flyer, event goers also can win top-notch firearms, premium hunts, and exclusive gear.

The RMEF began when four elk hunters had the same goal, to ensure the future of the Rocky Mountain Elk habitat.

“Since its humble beginnings in the mid-1980s, the RMEF now has nearly 225,000 members whose support helped complete more than 14,000 conservation and hunting heritage outreach projects that protected or enhanced more than 8.9 million acres of wildlife habitat and opened or improved public access to more than 1.59 million acres, much of which was completely off-limits to the public,” according to their website. “RMEF boasts more than 12,000 volunteers working through more than 500 chapters. RMEF celebrates its 40th anniversary on May 14, 2024.”
