Robert Huper Jr.

June 14, 1944 – October 20, 2022


TORRINGTON – Memorial Services for Robert Huper Jr., 78, will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel in Torrington on November 19, 2022 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Michael Clement officiating. Robert died in Moorhead, Minnesota on October 20, 2022, and cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

He was born, June 14, 1944, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and was the only child of Robert and Ida (Smith) Huper of Hawk Springs. He grew up and received his education in Hawk Springs and later attended the University of Wyoming. Robert went to work for the local sugar factory, Holly Sugar, in Torrington. He was later transferred to California to work for the sugar factory in Anaheim and El Centro. Robert retired from the sugar factory in 1993 and returned to Wyoming to help run Huper Farms.

His hobbies included hunting, gun shows, photography, and gemstone jewelry. Robert served as commander/president for the Awana organization at the First Baptist Church of El Centro from 1987-1988. He was a member of the Panhandle Rifle Club along with his sons, James and Brent Huper from 1993-1999. Robert was always the top shooter among all four teams at Panhandle Rifle Club.

He was the director for the Wyoming Wheat Growers Association in 1997 and 1998. Robert served as the president for the WWGA in 1999, 2000, 2001 and past president/director in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

He is survived by sons, James Huper of Scottsbluff, Brent Huper and wife, Toni Huper of Moorhead; daughters, Kathy Huper Lovan of Scottsbluff and Leslie Huper of Smyrna, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Martindale, Christopher Lovan, Stephanie Hirano, Tomara Petty, Blane Petty, Jazzilyn Smith, Austin Huper, London Huper and Corvin Crenshaw; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

For those who knew him: Robert’s quick wit and sharp sense of humor brought laughter to every situation and his soapbox stories went on for hours as he was a political enthusiast. He was a man of great compassion who put others first, looking after and caring for those in need around him. Robert had a fondness for all animals.
