TORRINGTON  – Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) freshman volleyball player Olive Osmera has been named the NJCAA Region IX North defensive player of the week.

A Torrington, Wyoming native, Osmera earned the honor for her standout defensive performance during recent conference play. As a key contributor to the Lancers’ back row at libero, Osmera continues to impress with her consistency, hustle and court awareness.

“Olive’s effort and energy on defense have been a huge part of our success,” coach George Hamilton said. “She plays with great composure for a freshman and is developing into a real leader on the court.”

Osmera played volleyball and basketball for the Torrington High School Lady Blazers. On the volleyball court, Osmera earned all-state and all-conference honors her junior and senior seasons.

As libero for the Lady Lancers, Osmera’s dig tally currently stands at 176, including 44 digs collected over the weekend against Central Wyoming College, Northwest College and Northeastern Junior College.

Osmera’s recognition marks another strong showing for the EWC volleyball program as the team continues its Region IX schedule.
