Old THS Tech building and 'Little House' coming down

TORRINGTON – After months of conversation, planning and approval from both the Goshen County School Board and the district Facilities Department, the “Old Tech Building” as it has come to be known began the process of being torn down as of first thing Monday morning.

While the building has been unused as well as obsolete for a few years now, Goshen County School District Business Manager, Marcy Cates, added the time had finally come to provide much needed room and comfortable space.

Simply put, the need for updated scenic improvement is vastly essential as the district heads into the new fiscal school year.

“We are just going to kind of beautify it there near the soccer field,” Cates said. “We should be laying concrete starting next week, and the completion date is set for August 15.”

According to Cates the building had become not only perhaps an eye blemish for school staff, students, and the public; but certain elements of safety were also primary sources of concern.

Additionally, once the demolition of the Tech Building is complete, the old Special Ed building, also known as the “Little House” is set to be torn down as well.

“That building was very dry, there was no water and no plumbing to it,” Cates added. “For a number of years, it was just being used as storage, so this has been in the works for about two years, almost 30 months now. It had to be approved by the Facilities Department as well as the Board of Trustees. The secondary part of this project is going to be the Special Ed ‘Little House’ on the corner of the soccer field. That one is going to be demolished following the Tech Building and has the same August 15 completion date.”
