TORRINGTON – More than 2,000 people came out last week to the Trunk or Treat in Torrington, hosted by Go Goshen and the Torrington Main Street Program.
The event was supported 60 local organizations, families, and downtown businesses who distributed candy and toys to the over 750 witches, pirates, princesses, and other young visitors to Main Street for Halloween.
“Torrington Main Street remains a lively, inviting destination for locals and visitors alike. Events like Trunk-or-Treat bring multiple organizations together working in accord to create a welcoming environment for all. The involvement of the Torrington Police Department, the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department, the City of Torrington, our downtown merchants and business community and multiple other community organizations culminates each year into a fun and safe event for our community and we are truly thankful for that,” Leann Mattis, Community Development Director at Go Goshen, thanked those who made the event a success.
Torrington Police Chief Matt Johnson echoed thanks to the organizers and participants.
“Our officers had a great time building relationships and making sure that everyone was safe. The staff at Go Goshen did a great job putting in the hard work behind the scenes to organize the event and complete the special event process," Johnson said. "The Torrington Volunteer Fire Department deserves our appreciation, as they do every day, for their help in keeping everyone safe at the event, and for the year ahead, with a supply of smoke detectors and batteries. There were also a number of individuals and businesses who showed up in force to with candy, funny displays, and fun adventures for the kids. Their hard work and contributions made it an amazing event for the kids.”
Future Torrington Main Street Program events include Small Business Saturday on November 30, the annual Christmas Parade on December 6, and the Cozy Christmas Celebration on December 14.
