CHEYENNE – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) rodeo team wrapped up its fall season with strong performances at the Shawn Dubie Memorial College Rodeo, held October 10–12 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Laramie County Community College hosted the event.

After three days of competition, the Lancers brought home one individual championship title.

In breakaway roping, freshman Kianna Miller captured the championship title, while sophomore Jaycee Lambert also advanced to the short-round. Both athletes posted lightning fast 2.3-second runs in the long-round, tying for third place. Miller stayed consistent with a 2.7-second run in the short-round to finish second and secure first place in the average. Lambert faced tough luck in the short-go, finishing seventh.

EWC alumna and Goshen County native Brenna Herring earned reserve champion honors in the event, finishing with a 5.1-second total on two head.

In barrel racing, sophomore Tommie Martin put together two smooth, consistent runs. She clocked a 16.59 in the long-round to tie for third and fourth and followed it with a 16.89 in the short-round, finishing sixth in the average.

At the midpoint of the season, several Lancers are sitting strong in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings. In goat tying, Tava Sexton is currently 16th.

In saddle bronc riding, Cade Else and Sawyer Hutchinson are tied for 12th and 13th, while Clay Nyhus is 15th.

In breakaway roping, Kianna Miller sits second overall, with Tommie Martin ranked 22nd, Jaycee Lambert 24th, and Jace Hurlburt 25th.

In steer wrestling, Taydon Gorsuch is fourth, Teagan Gourneau seventh, and T.C. Hughson 11th.

In bull riding, Eli Leppel holds third place, while in barrel racing, Griffin Grooms is 15th, Martin 16th, and Sexton 21st.

“This was a great way to wrap up our fall season,” coach Whit Peterson said. “Our athletes have worked hard and it’s rewarding to see their efforts pay off in the arena. We’re excited to carry this momentum into the spring.”

The Shawn Dubie Memorial marked the final rodeo of the fall semester for the Lancers.

The EWC Rodeo Team will also host its Annual Black Jeans and Gold Buckles Gala on November 21 at the Goshen County Rendezvous Center.
