TORRINGTON – On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17, former University of Wyoming All-American wrestler now Bellator MMA fighterBryce Meredith is scheduled to attend Torrington Wrestling Club’s Fall Pre-Season Camp.

“The wrestling club has always tried to put on some kind of camp together,” Ashley Albaugh said. “Jared Hatley is pretty close with Bryce, and he reached out to Bryce. We looked at a few different dates, and they came up with the agreement for September.”

The camp is designed for wrestlers eight years and older. Sessions will run from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. both days.

“We are trying to get them to that next level, and learning a little bit more skill that maybe our coaches aren’t teaching” Albaugh said. “Definitely seeing an outside view with all the different things that Bryce is involved in right now is exciting for these kids to see.”

Meredith is a Cheyenne Central High School graduate. He had a 123-8 record to go along with four Wyoming state championships while in high school. He went on to wrestle at the University of Wyoming where he won a Big 12 championship and became a two-time NCAA National Finalist and a three-time NCAA All-American. Currently, he is 4-0 as a Mixed Martial Arts fighter for Bellator MMA.

In addition to the on the mat accomplishments, Meredith has a special place in the hearts of the Albaugh family, developed a relationship with their son Ty.

“When my son found out he had an arachnoid cyst on his brain, and he was struggling a little bit about it,” Albaugh said. “Ty lives wrestling, and Bryce reached out and gave him some words of encouragement.”

Through that, they have stayed in contact and checks up on him.

“He’s very important to us too,” Albaugh said. “He’s a big name, and for him to take the time and reach out to my son to pick him up is just awesome.”

Cost is $50 per Torrington Wrestling Club wrestler or $75 per wrestler. The camp will be capped at 50 wrestlers and will be held at the Torrington Wrestling Room. 

“We want to keep it at 50 kids so it’s not overwhelming, and he’s able to spend the quality time with the kids that are going to be there,” Albaugh said.

The camp will be open to any Goshen County wrestlers first which includes high school and middle school students.
