Marjorie Shoemaker, 99, passed away peacefully on August 9,2023 at the Goshen Care Center. Although Marj’s parents, Donzie and A. Olson, were homesteading south of Torrington when she was born, her mother wanted a lady doctor she knew in Lincoln.

Mari was born December 24, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her parents moved to a farm west of Torrington when she was five. She graduated from Torrington High School in 1941 and then worked briefly at Safeway. She married Rex Shoemaker May 2, 1943 and moved to farm east of Veteran. To this union Kay, Gary and Kenny were born.

Marj enjoyed farming, gardening, quilting and animals of all kinds. She reupholstered furniture for family and friends for several years. She and close friend, Willa Mae Hill, made beautiful wedding cakes for several members in the community for many decades. She loved playing all kinds of cards with friends and family. She worked alongside Rex farming until they moved to Torrington in the spring of 1977. She was a member of the Torrington Presbyterian Church and helped with many functions there. She loved having family and friends in for meals. Mari’s cinnamon rolls were loved by everyone. Her greatest joy were her grandkids Laura, Rex, Joanna, Leslie Jill, Chris, Jeff, Kyle; great grand kids Nikki, Mackaylee, Mackenzie, Ainsley, Bennett, Crystal and Nicholas; and great-great grandkids Gwen, Delaney, Ryker and Caden. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Bob, husband Rex; sons Gary and Kenny and granddaughter Leslie Jill.

She is survived by her daughter Kay (John) Dooley; daughter-in laws Barbara Shoemaker and Sarah Shoemaker; grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
