LINGLE – Lingle Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) Chief Kasey Bangerter informed the town council of several preventative measures the department will have in place during August’s solar eclipse. The area anticipates a significant influx of tourists during the event.
LVFD members will man the fire hall from the Friday before the eclipse through Monday, Aug 21 – the eclipse is expected to begin around 10:30 a.m. Monday morning.
Firefighters and emergency medical technicians will also set up a first-aid station at the fire hall, in accordance with Goshen County Emergency Management.
In addition, LVFD will host a CPR class in the near future.

In other business:
• Police Chief Endra Moen discussed driving golf carts within town limits. It was determined if a golf cart can be licensed and insured, it is legal on town streets, although not on the state highways that run through Lingle.
• Clerk-Treasurer Michele Sussex reported the Black Hills Energy grant for the new Legion Hall/community center project was denied due to state vs. federal regulations for non-profit organizations. She continues to seek funding for the project.
• Sussex also said the town’s quiet railroad project is expected to begin in the fall of this year.
• Council members approved North Hills Baptist Church’s request to hold a petting zoo in June.
• The council also agreed to send a letter of support and certificate for matching funds in the amount of $2,200 to the Lingle Senior Center.
• The next council meeting is Wednesday, June 7 at 5 p.m. at Lingle Town Hall.
