CHEYENNE – The combined Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast (LFL/SE) girls’ wrestling team opened the 2024-2025 season with a bang, clinching seventh place out of 16 teams at the Charlie Lake girls’ wrestling invitational in Cheyenne on Friday, December 13.
The tournament featured teams of all sizes from across Wyoming and Nebraska. LFL/SE and Pine Bluffs-Burns were the only teams in the top 10 from small 1A or 2A schools with LFL/SE tallying 94.5 team points.
Returning state medalist and junior Hallie Fuller bagged the tournament title in the 140-pound bracket. Senior Grace Gibson and sophomore Trinity Martin secured second place at 110 pounds and 155 pounds, respectively.
“We had a very good start to our wrestling season for both the boys and girls,” coach Brandon Gifford said. “It is always nice to get started and wrestle good competition so we can see what areas we need to improve on and where we go from here. It was great so see Hallie Fuller come away with a title on Friday at a tough Charlie Lake Invite. We have another tough competition in Hot Springs this week and look forward to continuing to grow and get better.”
Squaring off against Jenna Karr of Wheatland in the semifinals at 140 pounds, Fuller battled her opponent into the third period before winning by fall at 5:43.
In the title match, Fuller pinned Cheyenne East’s Halley House in 43 seconds.
Junior Kaiten Schilreff also secured hardware at Charlie Lake with a fourth-place finish at 135 pounds
