MITCHELL – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) track teams battled through a busy weekend consisting of back-to-back meets in Nebraska and Wyoming.
On Thursday, April 10, LFL competed against tough Nebraska teams at the Mitchell invitational. The team traveled with a reduced roster due to “other school activity commitments” and several nagging injuries, coach Mike Lashley said.
“(Mitchell) is a competitive meet against Class B schools from the Nebraska Panhandle,” Lashley added. “Instead of trying to maximize team points, we opted to enter kids in events they do not necessarily do each week. It gave the kids a break from their normal events and helped us see where our fitness level is at.”
Twelve Doggers and Lady Doggers represented LFL against Wyoming 3A and 4A teams at the Okie Blanchard Invite hosted by Cheyenne East on Friday.
Senior Brody Roberts proved he can compete against athletes from any classification in the state when he struck gold in the boys’ 800-meters in Cheyenne. Roberts captured gold with a sub-2-minute time of 1 minute, 59.10 seconds, reaching the finish line 2.26 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Rogan Potter of Natrona County.
Junior Brady Cook also advanced to the top eight in Cheyenne with a seventh-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, timing in at 16.77 seconds.
“It was well worth the time and effort for our kids (to compete in Cheyenne), as we had seven season best performances and a couple PRs,” coach Lashley said. “We felt like it was a good dress rehearsal for regionals and state where we have to compete on back-to-back days. Our athletes responded very well to the test.”
