LFL tracksters collect hardware at Scottsbluff

SCOTTSBLUFF – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) High School track team opened the 2025 outdoor season with a bang, returning from the Binfield Invite in Scottsbluff with a bag full of hardware and new PRs on Friday, March 28.

Team scores were not kept at the meet but seven LFL tracksters and four relay teams prequalified for state in their respective events.

“We had a very good opening weekend,” coach Mike Lashley wrote. “Our experienced athletes seemed to pick up where they left off at the end of last season. Our younger athletes performed better than I thought they might for their first time at the high school level.”

In the boys competition, athletes clinched top-eight placings in 11 of 12 events while the Lady Doggers made the top eight in 13 of 14 events.

Senior Brody Roberts set the pace for the Doggers with a pair of gold medals. Roberts captured first place in the 400-meters, timing in at 51.75 seconds. The senior beat the second-place finisher from Scottsbluff by 1.18 seconds.

Roberts went on to clinch gold in the finals for the 200-meters at 23.36 seconds. Roberts crossed the finish line 0.18 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Scottsbluff.

Senior Louden Bremer garnered gold in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, clocking in at 42.25 seconds. Bremer finished with more than four seconds to spare over the second-place hurdler from Gordon-Rushville.

In girls mid-distance events, junior Jordynn Speckner punched in a first-place finish in the 800-meters. Speckner reached the finish line at 2 minutes, 33.55 seconds, pulling ahead of the runner-up from Torrington by more than two seconds.

Senior Jada Kaufman snagged first place in the finals for the girls’ 100-meter hurdles. Kaufman pulled ahead of the second-place finisher from Scottsbluff by 0.81 seconds to post a time of 17.19 seconds.

“It is exciting to think that performances will only get better as we continue to focus on technique and kids get into peak condition,” Lashley added. “Hopefully, the athletes are as happy with the results as the coaching staff and are motivated to keep working hard.”

Up next, LFL tracksters head to Bayard, Nebraska for an invitational on Saturday.

“The Bayard CD will be a big challenge for us,” Lashley said. “There are 17 teams entered and some of them are track and field heavyweights.”
